Crocker Highlands Real Estate
Located south of Piedmont and East of Downtown Oakland is Crocker Highlands, otherwise known as Trestle Glen. This area is not far from the City's core yet it gives you the feeling that you are in a very unique part of town. The streets are tree-lined and the neighborhood runs along a creek that feeds into Lake Merritt. This area was originally inhabited by Ohlone Indians, which is why it was originally named Indian Gulch. In the late 1800's, streetcars came to the area and eventually traveled across a tall wooden bridge called a Trestle, which is where the name Trestle Glen was derived.
There was an effort to turn Crocker Highlands real estate into a city park in 1915, but it failed and that led to the development of what is now one of Oakland's most exclusive neighborhoods. The architecture of Crocker Highlands homes, most of which was inspired by the Olmsted brothers was designed to create a connection between the lush green environment and the buildings built there. The different styles of Crocker Highlands homes includes Mediterranean, Craftsman Bungalow, Colonial and Praire. This Oakland neighborhood also has several small parks and to the north is the Lakeshore/Grand area which is a sprawling area with retail stores, coffee shops and dining.
