Broadway Terrace Real Estate

Located East of Temescal is Broadway Terrace, which could be considered the beginning of the Oakland hills. This area has sort of a small town feel, because the streets are wide, quiet and higher in elevation. There are high quality restaurants, coffee shops, a movie theatre, several boutiques and specialty stores just a couple of minutes away on Piedmont Avenue, however it's not a very walkable District due to it's elevation.

This area was developed later than most of the other areas in North Oakland, so most of it remained as estates into the 1900's. One of the biggest reasons for the growth of the Broadway Heights District was the horse-drawn streetcar of the 1870's, which carried people to the Mountain View Cemetary. Even though much of the growth of Broadway Heights occurred between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the development didn't end until the 1960's.

The architecture of Broadway Heights homes varies from Contemporary, Neo-Colonial, Custom and suburban style Ranch homes. By the 1960's-70's, there were apartment buildings and Condominiums built in the neighborhood's Southeast. The Mountain View Cemetary and others are still located North of this Oakland neighborhood.
