Montclair Real Estate
The Northern Hills of Oakland are home to Montclair which is a woody, rural-like suburban area with lush greenery and unique homes. Many of the areas in Montclair are forest like, with some trees soaring a hundred feet or more into the sky. One ironic characteristic of Montclair real estate is that even though the area looks newer, the Hills of Montclair were actually settled before Oakland was founded.
During the gold rush, cattle ranchers and loggers took advantage of the area's natural resources, although it's status as a residential area remained unrealized. By the early 1900's this unique area in Oakland became similiar to Piedmont in that is was a retreat from the City, offering natural beauty and serenity. By the 1920's, development had begun and it continued into the 60's. The architecture of Montclair homes is similiar to that of many neighborhoods in Oakland, in that it varied but was always designed to blend in with the natural beauty of the environment.
The styles of Montclair homes ranges from Ranch style, Praires, shingled cottages and some contemporaries such as Eichlers. One of the most striking characteristics of Montclair real estate is it's trees. Cyprus, Pines, Eucalyptus and of course Oaks dominate the landscape. In addition, because the architecture was meant to blend with the environment, many of the lots in Montclair are very large. The only retail section in Montclair is Montclair Village, which has small shops and restaurants as well as a Safeway.
